Thinking About
Philadelphia?
For
many this will
be a unique
opportunity to
visit a real
American city,
very different
from the
megalopolistic
gateways that
are the
traditional
convention
venues. Within a
100 mile radius
of Philadelphia
there is an
exciting tableau
of opportunity.
The tours that
are offered are
excellent,
appealing to a
broad range of
interests. This
site is a work
in progress. Our
goal is to
provide you with
a fertilizer
trader's guide
to Philadelphia.
The restaurant
reviews are
mostly done, but
our research on
the watering
holes and late
night joints
continues. In
the meantime, as
you plan your
trip, here are a
few themes to
consider.
Touch Our
History
Philadelphia is
the cradle of
the American
revolution.
Independence
Hall, the
Liberty Bell,
the Benjamin
Franklin Museum,
the Betsy Ross
House, the Tomb
of the Unknown
Soldier of the
Revolution, and
many more
interesting
historic sites
are all within
walking
distance. Just
west of the city
is
Valley Forge,
often described
as The Crucible
of Victory
where General
Washington s
Continental Army
struggled
through the
winter of 1777
to emerge as a
well drilled and
inspired
fighting force.
Further west is
Gettysburg, the
site of the most
critical and one
of the bloodiest
battles of the
Civil War.
Experience Our
Culture
Theatre, Music,
Art, it s all
here. Give early
consideration to
visiting the
Barnes
Foundation. Book
tickets online
for the Barnes
tour. These
other favorites
would be great
day trips to
take while in
Philadelphia:
Longwood
Gardens,
Brandywine River
Museum, The
Philadelphia
Orchestra and
other options
at the
Kimmel
Center for the
Performing Arts.
Play Golf
Founded in 1897,
there are now
116 private
clubs in the
Golf Association
of Philadelphia.
Amongst these is
the holy grail
of golf,
Pine
Valley, just 19
miles (and light
years) from our
office. Other
world class
tracks like
Merion are
accessible with
planning, and
there is a large
number of
semi-private,
and resort
courses readily
accessible like
Pine Barrens ,
Seaview,
Harbor
Pines,
Hartefeld
National,
Wyncote, and
Glen Mills.
Take a Vacation
The
New Jersey
Seashore is 90
miles east of
Philadelphia
with beautiful
white sand
beaches, golf
courses, and
houses for rent
during most
times of the
year. For those
amongst us who
don't get enough
gambling action
from their day
jobs, East Coast
gambling mecca
Atlantic City is
little more than
an hour away. If
you really want
to treat
yourself then go
to the
Greenbrier, just
a 6 hour drive
south west past
Gettysburg down
the Shenandoah
valley into the
hills of West
Virginia. Even a
visit to their
web site is fun.
Shop Till You
Drop! - Located
just 18 miles
west of
Philadelphia,
the
King of
Prussia Mall is
one of the
largest and
certainly the
most
sophisticated
shopping center
of its type in
America, ...and
there is no tax
on clothes in
Pennsylvania Visa,
MasterCard,
and American Express
accepted!
